Our client is seeking an experienced Workshop Leading Hand to join their fabrication team based in Bibra Lake. This is a full-time opportunity suited to a senior fabricator or welder looking to step into a leadership role while remaining hands-on. Reporting to the Workshop Production Manager, you’ll lead from the floor, support the team, and ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Performing hands-on fabrication, welding, and container modification work
  • Supervising and supporting fabricators, trade assistants, and contractors on the workshop floor
  • Allocating and prioritising daily tasks in line with production requirements
  • Providing real-time technical guidance and troubleshooting support
  • Ensuring all work is completed safely and meets quality standards
  • Assisting with short-term workflow planning and job scheduling
  • Monitoring team productivity and addressing workflow issues
  • Coordinating with the Workshop Production Manager on job progress and priorities
  • Ensuring materials, tools, and equipment are ready for upcoming work
  • Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives within the workshop
  • Supporting safety compliance and maintaining high workshop standards

What you’ll need:

  • Strong fabrication and welding experience, particularly with structural steel
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and plans
  • Experience in container modification or heavy fabrication (highly regarded)
  • Proven experience as a Leading Hand or in a senior trade-based role
  • Understanding of workflow coordination and job scheduling
  • Strong knowledge of workplace health and safety practices
  • Confident leadership skills with the ability to guide and support a team
  • Hands-on, practical approach with a willingness to lead by example
  • Strong problem-solving ability and a solutions-focused mindset
  • Reliable, decisive, and confident in directing others
  • Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate with management and team members
