Engineering Estimator – Machining & Fabrication – Brisbane

Our client is seeking an experienced Engineering Estimator – Machining & Fabrication who is willing to relocate to Brisbane, Australia, for long-term employment. This opportunity is suited to someone with a strong background in estimating costs for machining, steel fabrication and general engineering projects, particularly within the mining industry.

We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in small to medium-sized general engineering workshops who understand machining and fabrication processes and can prepare accurate, competitive and commercially viable quotations.

What you’ll be doing:

• Preparing quotations and cost estimates for machining, steel fabrication and general engineering projects
• Interpreting technical drawings, specifications and customer requests for quotation (RFQs)
• Estimating labour hours, machine times, materials, subcontracting and production costs
• Preparing competitive quotations for one-off components, repairs, small batches and fabricated assemblies
• Assessing material requirements and machining and fabrication processes
• Liaising with suppliers, customers and workshop personnel to confirm job requirements and costs
• Ensuring quotations are accurate and commercially viable

What you’ll need:

• Proven experience preparing quotations and cost estimates for machining, steel fabrication and general engineering projects
• Strong understanding of CNC and conventional machining processes, welding and fabrication
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications and customer RFQs
• Experience estimating labour hours, machine times, materials, subcontracting and production costs
• Ability to prepare competitive and commercially viable quotations
• Strong communication skills when dealing with suppliers, customers and workshop personnel
• Previous experience in a jobbing engineering workshop will be highly regarded
• At least 5 years of relevant industry experience
• Relevant qualifications and a strong understanding of engineering workshop operations
• Good attention to detail, problem-solving skills and commercial awareness
• Sufficient English communication skills for an Australian workshop environment
• Must be willing to relocate to Brisbane, Australia, for long-term employment
