Diesel Mechanic (FAW Truck Experience)

We are currently looking for a Diesel Mechanic (FAW Truck Specialist) To perform diagnostics, maintenance, repairs, and servicing of FAW trucks and other heavy commercial vehicles, ensuring maximum vehicle uptime, reliability, and compliance with safety standards.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 (Matric).
  • Qualified Diesel Mechanic (Red Seal Trade Test preferred).
  • Valid driver’s license (Code 14 advantageous).
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Diesel Mechanic.
  • Proven experience working on FAW trucks is essential.
  • Experience with heavy commercial vehicles and fleet maintenance.
  • Experience with engine, gearbox, differential, and brake system repairs
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines and vehicle systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and wiring diagrams.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
  • Computer literacy and experience using diagnostic software.
  • Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving abilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing on FAW trucks.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic faults.
  • Repair and replace faulty components, including engines, gearboxes, clutches, brakes, suspension systems, and differentials.
  • Perform engine overhauls and rebuilds as required.
  • Conduct inspections to identify potential mechanical issues before breakdowns occur.
  • Utilize diagnostic tools and equipment to identify vehicle faults.
  • Interpret fault codes and implement corrective actions.
  • Troubleshoot engine management systems, electrical systems, and fuel injection systems.
  • Ensure all maintenance and repair work complies with company safety procedures and manufacturer specifications.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
  • Complete job cards and maintenance records accurately.
  • Attend to roadside breakdowns when required.
  • Minimize vehicle downtime through efficient fault diagnosis and repairs.
  • Liaise with drivers and fleet management regarding vehicle conditions and repair requirements.
  • Ensure proper use and care of workshop tools and equipment.
  • Assist in identifying and requesting spare parts and workshop consumables.
  • Monitor parts usage and report shortages.
