Fridge Mechanic / Refrigeration Technician

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 / Matric.
• Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning qualification or relevant technical qualification.
• Refrigeration trade certificate would be advantageous.
• Minimum 2–3 years’ experience as a Fridge Mechanic / Refrigeration Technician.
• Experience with commercial or industrial refrigeration systems.
• Knowledge of refrigeration electrical and mechanical systems.
• A valid driver’s licence would be advantageous.
• Good fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
• Ability to work independently and under pressure.
• Willingness to work shifts, overtime, weekends, or standby when required.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, service, maintain, and repair refrigeration and cooling systems.
• Conduct preventative maintenance on refrigeration equipment.
• Diagnose electrical, mechanical and refrigeration faults.
• Identify and repair refrigerant leaks.
• Perform gas charging, recovery and evacuation of refrigeration systems.
• Maintain and repair compressors, condensers, evaporators, fans and associated components.
• Monitor refrigeration temperatures and ensure equipment operates within required specifications.
• Respond promptly to breakdowns and emergency maintenance requirements.
• Carry out routine inspections and record equipment conditions.
• Ensure refrigeration equipment complies with health, safety and environmental requirements.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and service reports.
• Work closely with production, maintenance and management teams to minimise equipment downtime.
• Ensure all tools, equipment and work areas are maintained in a safe and clean condition.
• Comply with the company’s health and safety policies and procedures.
