General Manager

Our client, a well-established aluminium manufacturing company based in Epping, Cape Town, is seeking an experienced General Manager to lead the overall operations of their manufacturing facility. This is a permanent opportunity suited to a strong operational leader with extensive experience in the aluminium manufacturing, glazing, façade, or architectural aluminium industry. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving operational efficiency, managing production teams, ensuring profitability, and maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, and customer service.

Requirements:

  • Diploma or Degree in Business Management, Operations Management, Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field.
  • Project Management qualification advantageous.
  • Minimum 8–10 years’ senior management experience within the aluminium manufacturing, glazing, façade, or architectural aluminium industry.
  • Proven experience managing a manufacturing or production facility.
  • Strong knowledge of aluminium fabrication, manufacturing, installation, and production processes.
  • Sound understanding of Building Industry Bargaining Council (BIBC) requirements and labour practices within the Western Cape.
  • Strong knowledge of South African labour legislation and disciplinary procedures.
  • Experience managing production, warehouse, logistics, procurement, installation, and maintenance teams.
  • Financial management experience including budgeting, cost control, wages, and salaries.
  • Computer literate with ERP or manufacturing systems experience.
  • Valid driver’s licence.
  • Strong leadership, communication, planning, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Hands-on management style with the ability to drive performance and accountability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and oversee the daily operations of the manufacturing facility.
  • Drive production efficiency, operational excellence, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure production targets, quality standards, and customer delivery deadlines are consistently achieved.
  • Monitor production costs and implement strategies to improve profitability.
  • Manage operational budgets, labour costs, wages, salaries, and overall expenditure.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop department managers and production teams.
  • Hold management accountable for operational performance and business objectives.
  • Oversee production, warehouse, logistics, procurement, and installation departments.
  • Ensure machinery, equipment, and facilities are effectively maintained to minimise downtime.
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation, labour legislation, and company policies.
  • Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions where required.
  • Drive quality control initiatives to reduce waste and improve product standards.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and key stakeholders.
  • Resolve operational and customer-related issues effectively.
  • Prepare and review operational reports and performance metrics.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
