Test 3
During the period of September 2012 our labour supply embarked on a Labour Strike and as a result we lost the bulk of our labour within 24 hours. This placed us at enormous risk as our vehicles had to be loaded, stock had to be received and packed down and stores required stock replenishments.
Our warehouse is situated in Isipingo and during the strike access to the site became very challenging for any workers. The striking staff cordoned off the entrances leaving the staff wanting to work exposed to various incidents of intimidation, threats and the possibility of serious assault.
The MASA Outsourcing management team offered 24/7 assistance and put us directly in contact with their attorneys, we were coached step-by-step through the process. MASA Outsourcing arranged a full complement of staff in order to ensure that our operations were kept running smoothly. The process was intimidating as we were forced to place unfamiliar staff onsite, however the MASA Outsourcing management team positioned themselves on site to ensure adequate training and guidance was offered throughout.
They also assisted with transportation to ensure employees arrived on time and were safe at all times. This involved negotiations with the Taxi association operating within the area.
Whilst the strike lasted approximately three months; the impact was not crippling to our business as a direct result of the involvement, commitment and support offered by the MASA Outsourcing management team.
