Minimum Requirements:
- Grade 12 / Matric or equivalent.
- Relevant qualification in hydraulics, mechanical engineering, fitting and turning, or a related technical field.
- 3–5 years’ relevant experience in hydraulic maintenance and repair.
- Practical experience working on mobile hydraulic equipment, commercial vehicles, trailers, or material-handling equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret hydraulic diagrams and technical documentation.
- Valid driver’s licence.
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
- Experience in a logistics, transport, fleet, warehousing, or heavy-equipment environment.
- Experience with tail lifts, loading systems, tipping equipment, compactors, truck-mounted equipment, or similar systems.
- Hydraulic hose assembly experience.
- Welding and basic fabrication skills.
- Experience with preventive maintenance systems or CMMS.
- Strong knowledge of hydraulic systems and components.
- Hydraulic pressure and flow testing.
- Mechanical fault-finding.
Key Responsibilities:
- Diagnose hydraulic faults using appropriate testing equipment and technical procedures.
- Inspect, repair, replace, and maintain hydraulic pumps, motors, cylinders, valves, hoses, pipes, fittings, and related components.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on hydraulic systems.
- Conduct hydraulic pressure, flow, and leakage tests.
- Strip, rebuild, and test hydraulic cylinders and other hydraulic components.
- Manufacture and replace hydraulic hoses and fittings where required.
- Identify the root cause of hydraulic failures and recommend corrective action.
- Carry out hydraulic repairs on trucks, trailers, tail lifts, compactors, loading equipment, forklifts, and other fleet or warehouse equipment.
- Read and interpret hydraulic schematics, technical manuals, and equipment specifications.
- Inspect equipment for potential hydraulic safety hazards.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, parts used, and equipment downtime.
- Ensure all repairs comply with company maintenance procedures and applicable health and safety requirements.
- Work closely with mechanics, electricians, fleet controllers, and operations personnel to minimise vehicle and equipment downtime.
- Maintain tools, diagnostic equipment, and the workshop in a safe and orderly condition.
- Provide technical input when sourcing replacement hydraulic components.
- Assist with emergency breakdowns and field repairs when required.
