Our client is seeking an experienced and hands-on Foreman to oversee stevedoring operations and ensure the safe, efficient and productive handling of cargo on board vessels and on the wharf.
The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating ship and shore operations, supervising labour, managing resources and equipment, and ensuring that all cargo is safely stowed, lashed and secured in accordance with operational and safety standards.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Matric / Grade 12.
- Minimum 1 year’s stevedoring experience.
- Certified Crane Operator.
- Certified Forklift Operator.
- Computer literate.
- Willing and able to work shifts, weekends and operational hours as required.
- Good understanding of safe working practices and disciplinary procedures.
- Strong communication and people-management skills.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan, coordinate and manage the lashing and securing of various types of cargo.
- Plan the stowing and discharging of cargo, taking into consideration load balances, stoppages and special instructions.
- Coordinate effective ship and shore operations.
- Supervise stevedoring operations on various vessels, ensuring the effective use of manpower, equipment and other resources.
- Supervise labour on board vessels and on the wharf to ensure operations are performed safely, smoothly and efficiently.
- Monitor the safe stowage, lashing and securing of cargo while maintaining required safety standards.
- Plan and manage the effective utilisation of people, equipment and operational resources.
- Liaise professionally with customers, vessel crew and transport personnel.
- Attend daily operational meetings on board vessels.
- Monitor and maintain safe working standards throughout operations.
- Ensure the correct handling, safekeeping and return of gear and equipment to stores.
- Complete required operational administration, including:
- Green Cards
- DWRs
- Incident Reports
- Other relevant operational documentation
- Apply and maintain appropriate disciplinary and operational procedures where required.
- Identify and address operational challenges promptly to minimise delays and maintain productivity.
- Ensure customer service, operational quality and safety standards are consistently maintained.
