Our client is seeking an experienced and certified Forklift Operator to operate 3-ton and 7-ton forklifts safely and efficiently during cargo handling and vessel loading and offloading operations.
The successful candidate must have practical experience operating forklifts, a strong understanding of safety procedures and the ability to communicate effectively with the operational team.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Certified Forklift Operator.
  • Minimum 2 years’ practical forklift operating experience.
  • Experience operating 3-ton and 7-ton forklifts.
  • Sound knowledge of safety practices and operating procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively via radio in:
    • IsiXhosa
    • English
    • Afrikaans
  • Ability to work at heights where operationally required.
  • Proactive, self-motivated and demonstrates initiative and drive.
  • Willing and able to work shift work, operational hours and overtime when required.
  • Code 08 driver’s licence will be advantageous.
  • Must be residing in Port Elizabeth (Gqeberha) or surrounding areas.
  • Immediate availability is essential.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Safely and efficiently operate 3-ton and 7-ton forklifts.
  • Assist with the loading and offloading of vessels and cargo in accordance with client standards and safe operating procedures.
  • Handle, move and position cargo safely and efficiently.
  • Ensure correct handling of cargo to minimise damage and operational delays.
  • Follow all operational and safety instructions provided by the Foreman and management.
  • Communicate effectively with the operational team via radio.
  • Maintain awareness of surrounding personnel, vehicles, equipment and cargo during operations.
  • Conduct routine pre-use inspections and report any defects, damage or safety concerns immediately.
  • Comply with all applicable site safety rules, procedures and operational requirements.
  • Assist with maintaining an efficient and productive cargo-handling operation.
  • Ensure the forklift is operated within its rated capacity and in accordance with safe operating procedures.
  • Work closely with the Foreman and other operational personnel to ensure smooth vessel and wharf-side operations.
  • Maintain a professional, safety-conscious and productive approach at all times.
