About the Role
A skilled and experienced Civil Concrete Foreman is required to supervise and lead site crews involved in structural and civil concrete construction.
The successful candidate will oversee the complete concrete construction process, including formwork/shuttering, steel reinforcement, concrete pouring, screeding, finishing and curing. The role requires a hands-on individual with strong technical knowledge and the ability to interpret construction drawings and ensure that work is completed safely, accurately and according to project specifications.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Grade 12 / Matric.
- Minimum 5 years' construction experience.
- At least 3 years' experience in a supervisory/foreman role specifically involving structural and civil concrete works.
- Proven experience supervising construction teams and subcontractors.
- Valid driver's licence.
- Ability to read and interpret civil, structural and architectural drawings.
- Strong knowledge of concrete construction methods and processes.
- Experience with formwork/shuttering and steel reinforcement.
- Knowledge of concrete pouring, screeding, finishing and curing procedures.
- Experience with line, grade and site layout techniques.
- Knowledge of using lasers and optical surveying/layout equipment would be advantageous.
- Strong understanding of construction health and safety requirements.
- OSHA or equivalent safety certification would be advantageous.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Site Supervision & Team Leadership
- Supervise daily activities of concrete labourers, finishers and subcontractors.
- Allocate tasks and ensure that daily production targets are achieved.
- Provide clear instructions to site teams regarding construction requirements.
- Interpret construction drawings, layouts and grade information for the site crew.
- Conduct daily toolbox talks and pre-construction briefings.
- Assist with weekly planning and scheduling of site activities.
- Monitor employee productivity and workmanship.
Concrete Construction & Technical Operations
- Coordinate structural and civil concrete works, including:
- Foundations
- Slabs
- Retaining structures
- Drainage structures
- Other concrete structures
- Supervise installation of formwork/shuttering and ensure correct positioning and support.
- Inspect steel reinforcement prior to concrete placement.
- Ensure concrete work complies with engineering drawings and project specifications.
- Coordinate concrete deliveries and pouring schedules.
- Monitor weather and site conditions and make appropriate operational adjustments.
- Supervise levelling, screeding and concrete finishing.
- Ensure correct elevations, levels and surface finishes are achieved.
- Monitor concrete curing processes and ensure appropriate procedures are followed.
QUALITY CONTROL
- Conduct regular site inspections to identify defects or non-conforming work.
- Ensure corrective action is implemented where required.
- Check formwork, reinforcement and concrete preparation prior to pours.
- Maintain quality control checklists and relevant site documentation.
- Ensure work is completed according to approved drawings, specifications and quality standards.
- Monitor materials and ensure appropriate usage and storage.
HEALTH & SAFETY
- Enforce all site health and safety procedures.
- Ensure employees use the required PPE correctly.
- Conduct and participate in toolbox talks and safety briefings.
- Maintain a clean, organised and hazard-free work environment.
- Identify potential site hazards and ensure corrective measures are implemented.
- Ensure work is carried out in accordance with applicable construction safety regulations.
ADMINISTRATION & REPORTING
- Maintain accurate daily site records and field logs.
- Record labour hours and crew attendance.
- Monitor material usage and maintain accurate material tallies.
- Compile daily and weekly progress reports.
- Communicate progress, challenges and requirements to the Project Manager.
- Coordinate with other site teams to ensure construction activities remain on schedule.

- May be required to work extended hours, weekends or additional shifts depending on project requirements.
